YOUNG WINS LATE MODEL THRILLER

The look in Eddie Young's eye before the race was a look of total focus and determination. The Franklin County Speedway Late Model division points leader was focused on his 3rd win of the season that he desperatly wanted to dedicate to his fallen teammate and friend Randy Adkins. If the "Iceman" was to win however, he and his team would have to overcome adversity that was caused by a blown engine from the previous weeks race and then a practice crash the night before the feature race.

When the #62 Late Model driver hit the track for the nights first practice session the car posted competitve lap times near the top of the chart but Young was not happy with the handling of his Chevrolet, "we're just not rotating thru the center the way we should be and it's killing my exit". The final practice was better after the adjustments were made but still not what the Penhook,Va driver wanted. With Qualifying due up next the team had no time for adjustments and were unsure what to expect, but they knew their driver wanted it all tonight and he turned his fastest time of the night so far with a (14.533) to barely take the pole position over his rival and second place points man Teddy Lawless (14.610).

The Frigidaire Heating & Cooling, Aireco Supply, Reynolds Transmission Service, ChristianRacing.com sponsored team were happy with the pole but would make one more change to the car to free the car up, they hoped. Young led the tightly competitive field down to get the green flag and would keep the lead for the first third of the race before the first caution flag flew. Double file restarts are now in place at the speedway and to the fans delight they created some awesome side-by-side action. Young got a good start but Kyle Dudley from Motor Mile Speedway in Dublin,Va got a better jump and would lead the race with the Iceman relentlessly pressuring the #4 car by just barely nudging Dudley's rear bumper for several laps until the the driver made a slight mistake and Young would make the pass coming off of turn two and would lead until a caution flew with five laps to go. Young nailed the restart to get the lead over the #11 of Steven Weeks and would go on to claim his third win of the season and increase his points lead.

In Victory Lane, Eddie dedicated the win to Randy Adkins. "Randy was right their with me the whole time, especially on those restarts, I was determined to get this win for him". In a pre-race memorial to Randy, Eddie carried a hat worn by Randy and did a "polish victory lap" which was made famous by the late Alan Kulwiki.
