Effects of Over Exposure:

Headache, nausea, giddiness and loss of consciousness.  Nose, throat and eye irritation.  Extreme exposure may cause death by paralysis of respiratory center.

Medical Conditions Prone to Aggravation by Exposure:


Current anemia, respiratory or liver ailments.

Primary Route(s) of Entry:

Inhalation.

Emergency and First Aid Procedures:

Move person to fresh air.  Apply artificial respiration if needed.  Remove contaminated clothing.  Wash eyes with water 15 minutes.  If swallowed, DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING.  CALL PHYSICIAN!!

Comments:

The IARC Monographs (Vol. 35) reporting on mice painting studies states that there is sufficient evidence for the carcinogenity in experimental animals of extracts of some asphalts.  The same document states that there is inadequate evidence that asphalts alone are carcinogenic to humans.

Steps to be taken in case material is released or spilled:

Extinguish all sources of ignition in the area.  Absorb spilled material with clay, diatomaceous earth or other non-flammable absorbent material.  Let dry in safe place.

Dispose as solid waste in accordance with local regulations.

VIII.   SAFE HANDLING AND USE INFORMATION

Respiratory Protection:

If TLV is exceeded, use organic respirator or supplied air system, avoiding sources of ignition.  Spray application releases particulate matter into the air.  To prevent inhalation of same, use proper respirator device as recommended by equipment manufacturer.

Sufficient to keep vapors below TLV.

Protective Gloves:

Neoprene gloves to avoid repeated contact.

Eye Protection:

Safety goggles to protect from splashes.
