Aireco Supply, Inc. was founded in
1952 under the name American Bakers Supply in
Washington, D.C.
In 1957, the name Aireco Supply, Inc. was adopted and the business was moved to Arlington,
Virginia, in what is now the Crystal City area, just across the Potomac River from Washington,
D.C.
In those years, Aireco earned a reputation for generously stocking the parts and
pieces
demanded by the supermarkets and commercial refrigeration contractors of that area. It was
said that if you wanted to buy one of anything you could buy anywhere, but if you wanted a
dozen or more, you had to buy at Aireco. In those same years, Aireco became known as a
stocking distributor for contractors and building owners in the commercial air conditioning
market.
In 1979, Aireco embarked on planned expansion in the Washington metropolitan market. By
1989, Aireco had grown to 11 branches, with its headquarters at the Arlington location.
In 1990, Aireco expanded into the Baltimore market by acquiring KBI, Inc., with branches
in downtown Baltimore and Timonium. At about the same time, Aireco expanded into the HVAC
equipment business and with the addition of the Copeland line, it became necessary to find
a larger, more centrally located headquarters and distribution center.
January 1992 was a signal month in Aireco’s history as it moved into its new 100,000 sq. ft.
headquarters in Savage, Maryland; and, more significantly, Aireco acquired Baltimore
Refrigeration Supply Company and its four Baltimore area branches.
Additional branch startups and acquisitions, including the 1995 join of forces between
Aireco and Air Conditioning Suppliers, Inc., makes Aireco one of the strongest HVAC/R
wholesalers in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Today Aireco has 40 branch locations conveniently located throughout the Metro
Baltimore/Washington/Virginia area. With 250 product lines, 20,000 items, knowledgeable
sales personnel, extensive customer training and much more, Aireco is committed to being
a full service HVAC/R supplier to their valued customers.
